Liverpool have seemingly changed their mind about letting midfielder Lucas Leiva go this summer, after the Daily
The Express report that the Brazilian was on the verge of moving to Besiktas on a season-long loan after being informed that he was free to discuss a departure with other clubs following a falling out with manager Brendan Rodgers.
However, it now appears that the 28-year-old will be remaining on Merseyside. The Express suggest that Rodgers wants a replacement before letting the holding midfielder move on, and the Reds’ number one target was Real Madrid’s Asier Illarramendi, but he appears to be on his way to Real Sociedad (via Express).
But, it would not be a surprise if Rodgers’ change of heart came after watching the long-serving stalwart put in a fantastic display in his first game of the season, which was the goalless draw with Arsenal. Lucas showed no signs of rust and helped keep the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez very quiet during the clash at the Emirates.
