Lucas Leiva to leave Liverpool after being left out of squad to face Stoke

Lucas Leiva’s days at Liverpool appear to be numbered after manager Brendan Rodgers left him out of Sunday’s squad to take on Stoke City, according to The Guardian.

The 28-year-old is rumoured to have fallen out of favour under Rodgers and did not even travel with the rest of the squad to the Britannia Stadium for their Premier League opener.

The Guardian claims that the Brazilian international has fallen behind in the pecking order to the likes of James Milner and Jordan Henderson, while Emre Can came off the bench in the dying minutes against Stoke. Welsh international midfielder Joe Allen is another option, though he is currently out with a hamstring injury.

And because he has been demoted to fifth choice, relations between the player and the manager are said to be strained. This also isn’t the first time that Rodgers has had doubts over the Lucas, with The Guardian pointing out that he even came close to letting him move on in previous transfer windows.

However, where Lucas managed to stay and fight for his future at the club in the past, he may decide to reconsider should an attractive offer come his way before the end of the transfer window.
