Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has criticised David de Gea after the goalkeeper’s attitude was called into question amid speculation linking the stopper with a move to Real Madrid, The
Louis van Gaal has left arguably the Red Devils’ player of the season from the last campaign out of the squad for every game of the season so far, with Argentinian Sergio Romero taking his place, while Sam Johnstone has been the former Sampdoria man’s understudy.
The Dutchman claimed that the 24-year-old had lost focus as talk persisted that a move to the Bernabeu was on the cards (via Daily Mail), and Scholes did not hold back when he was asked about how he thinks de Gea has acted (via The Sun).
“They paid a lot of money on a young keeper to give him this chance,” he said.
“If the manager is right and says he has lost focus, then yeah, I think he is out of order,” he added.
Given how long it can take to get a deal of this magnitude across the line, there is a very real possibility that the Spaniard will be a Manchester United player beyond Tuesday’s deadline. And with Romero doing a solid job since he was given an opportunity, de Gea’s reported loss of focus may now ensure that he endures a very frustrating season while he watches his contract slowly run down.
