Manchester United have not had a good week in terms of signings after missing out on both Pedro and Nicolas Otamendi, but it’s now about to get much worse.
News from Spain has broken on Friday afternoon confirming that Atletico Madrid centre-back Diego Godin has signed a one-year extension, tying him to the club until 2019.
The Uruguayan international had been on the radar of both Manchester United and Manchester City at various points during the transfer window, but it now seems as though the Premier League pair will be left disappointed.
City apparently even went as far as to offer a contract of £90,000-a-week but the 29-year-old apparently turned the deal down.
Meanwhile United have been linked with a number of defenders as Louis van Gaal hopes to reinforce his back line.
“He has made history, he is a legend. Diego Godin is Atletico until 2019,” a message from the club’s official Twitter account read.
