Although Joel Ward’s equaliser led to questions being asked about Arsenal’s title-winning credentials once again, Olivier Giroud managed to quieten the calls for the Gunners to make signing Karim Benzema a priority this summer with a stunning goal to break the deadlock against Crystal Palace.
The Frenchman opened the scoring in the early stages of the game at Selhurst Park thanks to a wonderfully-taken goal that Alex McCarthy could do nothing about.
The north London side had been banging on the door for most of the first 15 minutes when Mesut Ozil got down the left, and lifted a cross that appeared to be heading behind Giroud. However, the 28-year-old still managed to unleash a fantastic effort into the bottom corner.
Should this goal give Arsenal fans confidence that they don’t necessarily need Karim Benzema?
