Branislav Ivanovic believes that Chelsea just need one major victory to get their season back on track, according to the Daily
The Premier League champions’ poor start to the season continued yesterday as they lost away to Everton, but the right-back thinks that the Blues are not playing as badly as the table suggests.
“We need one big win to come back to our way,” he said.
“We are not playing as badly as the results are showing but we have to wake up.
“I think at the moment we are being punished for all our mistakes. The only way we can change is to work hard and be ready for the next game, so it is like a final and we have to play like a final,” he added.
The side’s problems have largely stemmed from their defensive frailties. Despite their impenetrable back four from last year remaining in tact for the start of this term, the club have conceded at least two goals in every single league clash so far.
Chelsea’s next game will allow them to take their mind off their league struggles temporarily, as they host Maccabi Tel Aviv – who are now coached by former Blues midfielder Slavisa Jokanovic – in the opening game of their Champions League campaign.
However, Jose Mourinho will surely be keeping one eye on their next league game, which will see Arsenal travel to Stamford Bridge. Defeat could leave the club in the bottom three, and, perhaps more importantly at this early stage, as many as 14 points behind current league leaders Manchester City.
