Arsenal have been handed a further fitness boost on Thursday morning after the Metro
The England international sustained a hairline fracture to his left fibula just before the side’s Community Shield victory over Premier League rivals Chelsea in early August.
Wilshere was initially expected to return just days after picking up the injury, but scans later revealed that it was serious enough to keep him out of the side for the start of the campaign.
However, the 23-year-old is said to be much closer to full fitness than expected and could return to full time training next week.
The news will come as a relief to Gunners fans, who found out on Wednesday that centre-back pairing Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny could be in line to make their own comebacks during this weekend’s meeting with Stoke City.
