Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has backed his new international teammate Anthony Martial to shine at Old Trafford, according to The
The 19-year-old finished a whirlwind week – which had begun with a £36m deadline day move to the Red Devils (via The Sun) – by making his France debut with a substitute appearance during Didier Deschamps’ side’s friendly victory over Portugal, and Pogba believes that he has seen enough to suggest that he will justify the incredible fee.
“I call him ‘the young old man’ because he’s 19 and he’s already so mature for his age,” he said.
“I already knew him well, he has great ability and a huge amount of potential. He will bring a lot to the French team.
“I’m very happy for him, he’s changed clubs now, he’s in the Premier League where he will train with great players and will keep improving,” he added.
Unlike what Pogba found during his time with United, Martial should not find first-team opportunities too difficult to come by in the Premier League.
Along with skipper Wayne Rooney, the former Monaco man will have to shoulder the majority of the attacking burden – although there are several attacking-minded midfielders that will be able to fill in if required – and so, will be under some pressure to hit the ground running as soon as he returns to Carrington following the international break.
But after the endorsement from one of the hottest properties in Europe currently, it would not be a surprise if he did manage to silence those who doubted whether he was worthy of being the most expensive teenager in history.
