Manchester United have scored six goals in their last two matches, looking like a team that’s enjoying the game of football once again. According to Sky
The Red Devils beat Derby 3-1 on the road in the fourth round of the FA Cup, with goals from Wayne Rooney, Daley Blind and Juan Mata. A couple of days later, United send Stoke City home with a 3-0 loss at Old Trafford. This time Lingard, Anthony Martial and Rooney hit the net for Louis van Gaal’s side.
The Dutchman has been under serious scrutiny since United gradually fell in the table and saw the title and a top four finish slip away.
However, Lingard has seen a change in van Gaal’s approach, which for now has paid dividends.
“Now we are playing with that freedom and we’ve got a lot of energy in the team,” Lingard said accoring to Sky’s report.
“To be mixing up the positions and entertain the crowd, we’ll have to do that, but it’s that freedom that we have, it’s a weight off our shoulders and we can just play football now.”
The winger, who joined the Old Trafford club at the age of seven, came out to defend his coach.
“With the results, it’s not the manager’s fault. We are the ones who have been on the pitch playing.”
United are currently ranked fifth in the Premier League standings, five points behind Arsenal and Tottenham. If the season ended now, the Red Devils would not be featured in next season’s Champions League, as they would be forced to play in the Europea League.
