Mesut Ozil is no longer Europe’s king of assists

During the course of the current season, Mesut Ozil racked up the assists like no other player. However, the Arsenal playmaker’s machine has stopped recently.

The German is now no longer Europe’s king of assists, as he was passed by Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Borussia Dortmund ace has provided 17 assists in all competitions for the Bundesliga giants, which is one more than Ozil’s 16 for Arsenal, according to Goal.

That was pretty much unexpected as Ozil racked up his current total by Christmas, looking certain to break Thierry Henry’s long-standing record.

But the Gunners have not won a Premier League match since January 2 and were only successful in the FA Cup, without Ozil registering an assist.

The 27-year-old has also been joined by Barcelona star Neymar. Next up are two players with 12 assists: Manchester City’s injured Kevin De Bruyne and PSG’s Angel Di Maria.

They are followed by four players with 11 assists in all competitions. Those are Barcelona’s Luis Suarez, Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne, Borussia Monchengladbach’s Raffael and Everton’s Gerard Delofeu.

A surprising name completes the top ten, with Villarreal’s and former Tottenham flop Roberto Soldado providing 10 assists this season.
