Stoke boss Mark Hughes has confirmed that Stoke are in talks with Porto to sign highly-rated French international midfielder Gianelli Imbula in a deal worth £18million.
The mooted transfer fee would be a club-record one for the Potters, whose previous transfer record fee was the £12million they paid for Swiss international midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri from Italian giants Inter in the summer.
Imbula is highly-regarded as a powerhouse defensive midfielder and as one of the best up-and-coming players in his position in European football.
Potters boss Mark Hughes is confident of getting the deal done and told Sky
Imbula only arrived at Porto in the summer for a fee of around £15million from Marseille, but he has been impressive for the Portuguese side.
One player who does not look set to leave the Potters is Peter Odemwingie, after the Potters rejected a loan offer from Marseille for the 34-year-old, who has struggled for first team football this season. The Nigerian international looks set to stay with the Potters, unless there is a late bid from elsewhere.
