Tottenham are in the hunt for the their first Premier League crown since 1961 and the Spurs have done it on both ends of the pitch, scoring the league’s most goals while conceding the least.
The last time Tottenham finished a season in front of Arsenal was in 1995, meaning this team has performed very well from an historical standpoint.
Harry Kane and Dele Alli have been the Spurs’ biggest stars this season, providing a total of 34 goals and 10 assists. However, Toby Alderweireld has been Tottenham’s unsung hero and the stats are backing the conclusion that the Belgium international has been the best centre-back in Europe this season.
Alderweireld has not made a foul for exactly 600 minutes of action, with his last foul coming on March 2 against West Ham. On average, the Belgian has made 0.3 fouls per game this season. No defender in the five biggest European competitions has been better in this regard.
That proves his vision and positional play has been outstanding, while his ability to win duels is pretty amazing. During his last five league matches, the 27-year-old has won 100 per cent of his aerial duels, while making 49 clearances, 11 tackles and recording four clean sheets.
Alderweireld joined the Spurs last summer from Southampton for £12 million, after a loan spell at Atletico Madrid.
