Liverpool face setback in pursuit of midfielder, compete with Leicester for Arsenal winger

Liverpool have long been linked with a move for Empoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski. The 22-year-old even posed for pictures with a Liverpool shirt and publicly proclaimed the Reds’ interest in his services.

However, it seems like the Poland international jumped the gun with his comments and he won’t be arriving at Anfield after all.

According to Football Italia, Serie A runner-up Napoli have surpassed the Reds as the favourites to sign the talented midfielder. The report claims that Maurizio Sarri’s side are close to wrapping up a deal for the player.

Zielinski is originally owned by Udinese but is currently on a two-year loan spell at Empoli. Borussia Dortmund are also said to be interested in his services.

On the other hand, Liverpool are very much involved in the pursuit of Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

According to Daily Express, the Reds are currently facing competition from league champions Leicester City for the 22-year-old. Chamberlain has seen his career with the Gunners stalled during the last couple of years due to his injury problems.

However, he is still highly-rated by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and it’s very unlikely that he will be allowed to leave the club in the summer.
