Liverpool strengthen their position in pursuit of Ligue 1 starlet

Liverpool have strengthened their position in their pursuit of highly-rated Rennes striker Ousmane Dembele.

It was assumed that the 18-year-old is close to joining Borussia Dortmund after he liked a photoshopped picture of himself wearing a Dortmund shirt on Twitter recently. He further fuelled the rumours by starting to follow the Twitter page of the Bundesliga club.

However, according to the recent reports, Liverpool are back in the pursuit of the youngster and the player himself is believed to prefer a move to Anfield.

Guardian Sport’s deputy news editor Ed Aarons has claimed that Rennes want to sell their player to Dortmund, but the player prefers a move to the Reds.

Dembele has already talked to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp by phone and he is convinced that a transfer to the Premier League will be a better move for his future.

The highly-coveted striker made his senior debut in November and, since then, he has scored 12 goals and provided five assists for the Ligue 1 club. He is the youngest player to score 12 goals in top five European Leagues this season.
