Manchester United have been linked with a number of big football stars all season long, especially since Jose Mourinho was named the club’s manager. However, the Red Devils are also trying to secure their future by adding a set of young starlets.
First and foremost, teenage sensation Marcus Rashford has signed a new long-term deal at Old Trafford after his impressive start in the Red Devils first team, according to the club’s official website.
Rashford’s new contract is a four-year deal with the option of a further year. The 18-year-old scored eight goals in 18 first-team appearances after being handed his debut in the Europa League against FC Midtjylland in February.
“I am delighted to have signed a new contract”, the striker said. “I have always been a Manchester United fan, so to be playing in the first team really is a dream come true. I am grateful for having the chance to prove myself. To be able to play football at the biggest club in the world means everything to me and my family.”
In addition, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has also extended his deal at United until 2020.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils have sent scouts to the Toulon Tournament to watch Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, with the club seeing him as David de Gea’s long-term successor, according to Chronicle Live.
England’s Under-21 squad won the prestigious tournament by beating France 2-1 in the final. Chelsea’s Lewis Baker won the Golden Boot by scoring four goals, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek was named Player of the Tournament.
However, Pickford conceded just two goals in five appearances and only last season signed a new deal at the Stadium of Light which sees him contracted to Sunderland until 2020.
Last but not least, according to The Sun, Mourinho is keen to get West Ham’s young gun Reece Oxford to Old Trafford and is willing to offer £10 million for the 17-year-old’s centre-back services.
Oxford has refused to sign a contract extension with the Hammers and is poised to leave the club after making his senior debut this season.
