Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has set his sights on Wolfsburg attacker Julian Draxler, according to a report by German news outlet BILD.
However, the German club are set to demand a substantial fee after they themselves paid £27 million for the 22-year-old just a year ago, as Draxler made the switch from Schalke 04 after being heavily linked with Juventus.
The 22-year-old, who’s currenlty playing for Germany at Euro 2016, provided nine goals and eight assists in 35 appearances in all competitions during his first season at Wolfsburg. He’s capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or an offensive winger, versatility a coach like Mourinho likes in players.
The Red Devils recently missed out on another Bundesliga star, Henrikh Mhkitaryan. Despite the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, claiming the 27-year-old only wants to leave Borussia Dortmund for Manchester United, the German club’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said Mhkitaryan will not leave the club.
“We have intensely discussed the question of an early transfer in all club bodies and came to the conclusion that Mkhitaryan will stay in Dortmund next season”, Watzke said according to BILD (via ESPN FC).
United made a £18.9 million offer for the 27-year-old, who provided 23 goals and 32 assists in 52 appearances in all competitions last season, but like Arsenal and Juventus will have to wait another year to scoop up the player.
