Louis van Gaal is in the running for the AC Milan job, should the club overlook either Christian Brocchi or Marco Giampaolo. The former Manchester United boss is in the running along with Frank de Boer and Andre Villas-Boas, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Dutch manager got the sack at Old Trafford at the end of May in favour of Jose Mourinho, who was rumoured to become the next United coach for months.
Van Gaal was unable to guide the Red Devils back to Premier League and Champions League glory in his two seasons at the club. The team finished fourth during the 2014/2015 season and fifth during the 2015/2016 season. United didn’t play in Europe in his first season and were eliminated in the Champions Leauge group stage last season, while losing to Liverpool in the round of 16 of the Europa League.
Meanwhile, Milan finished just 7th last season after finising 10th in 2014/2015. They are set for another season without European football and are in desperate need of a strong manager to guide the club back to glory.
Former Sevilla and new PSG boss Unai Emery was the Rossoneri’s favourite, but now Van Gaal has emerged as a possible replacement of current manager Christian Brocchi, who replaced Sinisa Mihajlovic late in the season. Van Gaal has never coached in Italy.
