Gonzalo Higuain is reportedly set to leave Napoli this summer, but not for Arsenal or Liverpool. According to reliable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the striker has agreed personal terms with Juventus.
The report claims the Old Lady and Higuain have agreed on a four-year contract, which would net the 28-year-old £6.3 million per season, making him the highest earner with the Serie A champions.
Juventus now have to convince Napoli to sell their star man, who scored a league record 36 goals last season as the Partenopei finished second behind the Bianconeri. Higuain has a £78.4m release clause in his contract and Juve are willing to add a set of players in order to satisfy Napoli’s needs.
Arsenal, like Liverpool, had been heavily interested in Higuain and were linked with a shocking swap deal involving Olivier Giroud and the Napoli striker.
The Gunners were reportedly ready to offer the France international in addition to £42 million to sign the Argentina international, while the Reds had been monitoring his situation too.
Higuain currently has two years left on his deal with Napoli and has been unwilling to extend it. The striker reportedly already turned down a big money move to Chinese club Hebei Fortune, which would have netted him £800,000 per week, as reported by the Daily Express.
