Manchester United and Manchester City are set to rival each other in the pursuit of Juventus centre-back Leonardo Bonucci.
City were said to be leading the pursuit for the Italy international, but the latest reports suggest that United have entered into the foray for the defender.
Manchester Evening News claims that Jose Mourinho is keen on signing another defender in the transfer window and has identified the 29-year-old as his primary target. The report adds that Mourinho intends to sell Marcus Rojo this summer and he is unsure whether new signing Eric Baily will be able to adjust to the Premier League right away.
Bonucci has been indispensable for Juventus during their success in Serie A in the recent years. He was a standout player for the Italy national team during their campaign in the recently concluded Euro 2016.
City, who were reportedly willing to spend up to £50 million to land the Italian defender and looked favourites to sign the player, will now have to compete with their bitter rivals for the centre-back.
