Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has acknowledged that he will not be able to stop Thomas Lemar from leaving the club in the summer.
The France international has been a target of Premier League sides Arsenal and Liverpool for almost a year now. The Gunners even made a late bid for him last summer, but his move was not sanctioned by the Ligue 1 club. Since then, he has been continuously linked with these two and other sides. Now, it appears that he will finally be on his way this summer.
According to Telefoot, when Vasilyev was asked if he would consider offers for the 22-year-old, he nodded in affirmative, and added: “Good luck to those who want him.”
The report also suggests that Lemar is expected to cost £104m in the transfer market. It would be interesting to see whether the Gunners will reignite their interest in the player.
There is no doubt that Wenger is a fan of his countryman, but he has recently purchased Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and in a recent interview, he hinted that he will prioritize defensive signings this summer.
Meanwhile, the North London side have also been linked with another French player recently – Manchester United forward Anthony Martial.
According to Le10 Sport, Martial has become frustrated under Jose Mourinho at United. He believes that a move to Arsenal would suit his career, much like his former teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The report also suggests that Martial is prepared to force his move in the summer.
If the Gunners decide to move for Martial, then the Reds would be left as favourites to sign Lemar. The Merseysiders have recently splurged money on centre-back Virgil van Dijk, and they are set to welcome Naby Keita in the summer. However, they still have considerable money left from Philippe Coutinho’s sale, and if they can manage to bring in a talent like Lemar, they will be counted among title favourites next season.
