Given backs Bent to end goal drought

Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given has backed England striker Darren Bent to find his goalscoring form again, following a disappointing start to the season that has seen him net just once in six games.

Bent, 27, scored nine goals in 16 appearances last season for Villa following his 21m Euro move from Sunderland in January, and the Republic of Ireland ‘keeper Given has no doubts that the goals will soon come again:

“People say that Darren can’t buy a goal at the moment but it will come,” Given told the Daily Mail. “We know the quality he has. He’s just got to keep believing in himself. Strikers sort of thrive on confidence.”
