Butt puts Man City in poll for title challenge

Former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt has insisted that rivals Manchester City have what it takes to take the title from the reigning champions.

City are currently five points clear of United at the top of the Premier League and are the only side in the league to remain unbeaten after defeating Newcastle United on Saturday.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have responded to their 6-1 mauling at the hands of the Blues by collecting three successive league victories but former United midfielder Butt believes that catching Roberto Mancini’s men will be a very difficult task for the Red Devils.

He told Sky Sports News: “They’ve come on leaps and bounds from last year and they’ve got all the players they need to compete at the highest level.

“They seem to have a team spirit now that rivals anybody else, so it’s going to be a difficult year for Man United to keep them at arm’s length.”
