Villas-Boas hits back at Chelsea critics

After beating Valencia 3-0 last night to qualify for the knockout rounds of the Champions League, Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas used the success as a springboard to hit back at critics of his side that have emerged in recent weeks.

BBC Sport reports that Villas-Boas said in his press conference last night: “My players deserve respect they don’t get. We’ve been chased by different kinds of people and pressures. Here we have given everyone a slap in the face.”

Despite the victory being only the Blues’ fifth in their last 11 matches they finished top of their group. Villas-Boas also criticised alleged Manchester City bias in the press: “I hope they [Manchester City] qualify for the Champions League knockout stage but the attitude to them is; if they qualify they qualify, if they don’t they don’t – we don’t get that margin.”
