Distin goads Liverpool ahead of derby

Everton defender Sylvain Distin has added extra spice to Sunday’s Merseyside derby after claiming that he “felt sad” for Liverpool supporters, says ESPN.co.uk.

The local rivals meet on Sunday afternoon with the Toffees knowing that a victory over Brendan Rodgers’ side would mean that they not only would still be in the hunt for European football, but are guaranteed to finish above their neighbours for a second successive season.

And Distin has irked Reds supporters who goaded him on Twitter about his defensive lapse during Liverpool’s FA Cup semi-final win over David Moyes’ team last year.

Distin tweeted: “My red followers been very quiet this season. I wonder why. Now they beg me for a mistake to make them feel better. I’m feeling sad for them.

However a win for Liverpool at Anfield would see them move to within two points of sixth-placed Everton – who haven’t won on their bitter rivals’ turf since the turn of the century.
