Steve Bruce conceded he was “absolutely shattered” after a topsy-turvy afternoon ended in Hull City being promoted to the Premier League, says Sky
The Tigers boss saw his side concede an injury time equaliser at home to Cardiff, meaning Watford could be promoted ahead of Hull if they could beat Leeds United at Vicarage Road.
But the Hornets lost 2-1 after conceding a late goal of their own, meaning Bruce and his team could celebrate a return to the top division.
Bruce said: “I have been around the block and this was wonderful entertainment, but it’s put us through the ringer. Overall we deserved it.”
“The ref gave them an unbelievable decision to give Cardiff a penalty but it’s our day. I would like to say well done to Watford who pushed us all the way.”
The Tigers will join runaway Championship winners Cardiff in the Premier League next season, with Watford having to settle for a place in the play-offs alongside Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace and Leicester City.
