Chelsea have set a deadline of August 26 for the future of unsettled Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney to be decided, ESPN
Jose Mourinho is said to be keen to resolve the matter before his side travel to Old Trafford for a Premier League encounter on Bank Holiday Monday. Should the transfer not be sorted by then, the deal will be off, the Daily Express claimed.
The Chelsea boss does have alternatives in mind, however, should that be the case, with Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto’o, who Mourinho managed at Inter, being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent days.
The Blues have so far had two bids for Rooney rejected, but a third and final offer is expected in the near future, as Mourinho hopes to secure his main summer transfer target. Man Utd are reportedly looking for the best deal they can possibly get – despite their insistence that Rooney is not for sale – as the 27-year-old appears clearly intent on leaving the club after nine years.
