Bottom plays top in the Premier League on Saturday as Chelsea make the short journey across West London to take on Fulham.
This will be Felix Magath’s first home game in charge of the Cottagers, having begun his reign with a draw at fellow strugglers West Bromwich Albion. Conceding a late equaliser at the Hawthorns will have been frustrating at a time when wins are essential, but there will have been many positives for the German to take, not least that Fulham looked a lot stronger in defence than they had done under Rene Meulensteen.
The hosts will be hoping that Chelsea will be somewhat fatigued after their efforts in Turkey on Wednesday, where they managed a 1-1 Champions League draw with Galatasaray. Manager Jose Mourinho was rueful of his side’s lack of killer instinct after the game, but they often find a way to win in the Premier League, scoring in the dying seconds against Everton to maintain their narrow lead at the summit.
Matthew Briggs is Fulham’s only injury absentee, while fellow defender Fernando Amorebieta could be in line for a recall to the starting line-up.
Chelsea have doubts over David Luiz, who has a muscle injury. January signings Nemanja Matic and Mohamed Salah could both play after they were cup-tied for the trip to Istanbul.
