Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli has told manager Brendan Rodgers that he wants to stay at the club despite his disappointing start to life at Anfield, according to the Guardian.
He has not started a match for Liverpool since the defeat to Chelsea on November 8, as a result of injury and an admission from Rodgers that he is not suited to the club’s high-pressing game. This has seen him linked with a return to Italy during the January transfer window, with Serie A leaders Juventus the latest club rumoured to be interested.
But Rodgers insists that Balotelli is keen to stay, and that he will not be going anywhere before the end of the month. “He does want to stay, I think that is the case with him,” he said. “He does care about doing well for Liverpool and wants to do well but it just hasn’t gone as he would have wanted.
‘This is a club where you will get every opportunity to shine. This is a group that is very close-knit, the spirit is strong and you can work your way into that by working hard and you will get your rewards. We’ve seen that over the last two and a half years with other players.”
