The prospect of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard playing alongside and against the likes of Kaka and David Villa already made MLS one of the most star-studded leagues in the world. But, it now appears that one more legend of the game is about to join them.
Liverpool Transfer Gossip
According to The Telegraph, Juventus hero Andrea Pirlo has already accepted a move to America, and will be lining up alongside Lampard and Villa, having decided to join New York City FC.
The Telegraph report that the 36-year-old will leave the Italian giants in the summer when his contract expires, and there were suggestions that his next destination could be the Premier League, with the Daily Mail suggesting that Liverpool were in for the midfield maestro.
But, while the Reds are set to be disappointed, it does appear that Pirlo will be leaving his home for the last four years if The Telegraph is correct.
And the Italian could bow out in fairytale fashion as his side go into the Champions League final – his final game – knowing that if they can beat Barcelona, they will secure the treble.
But, don’t despair thinking that the English will never get to see the magician in action. Judging by Frank Lampard’s career since he signed for New York, it would not be a surprise if Pirlo did appear in the Premier League anyway.
