Arsenal are preparing to get over missing out on Morgan Schneiderlin, by going after Portugal under-21 star William Carvalho.
According to the Daily Star, the Frenchman looks set to move to Old Trafford in a deal worth around £25m, despite the Gunners’ interest.
Having lost out in the battle for the Southampton stalwart, Arsene Wenger has had to look elsewhere, and he’s now decided that Carvalho is the man he wants to sure up his midfield.
The Star suggest that Chelsea and United have previously been linked with the £20m-rated player, who currently plays for Sporting Lisbon. However, with the Red Devils’ acquisition of Schneiderlin, it seems likely that the Blues are the only Premier League side that stand in Arsenal’s way.
The 23-year-old is currently part of the national side’s under-21 team that have reached the final of the European Championships in the Czech Republic, and have only conceded one goal along the way.
And while Francis Coquelin has done a fantastic job in the holding role since his emergence midway through last season, the Gunners have few options to replace him, should he get injured.
