It now appears that Chelsea’s move for Monaco striker Radamel Falcao will be completed imminently, according to reports.
Chelsea News and Goals
The Telegraph report that the 29-year-old is close to agreeing a loan move to Stamford Bridge, after the two clubs held talks for the last two weeks. The main stumbling block was the French club’s insistence that the Blues covered the majority of the Colombian’s £265,000 a week wages.
However, The Telegraph suggest that the Premier League champions are not willing to go near that figure. Monaco’s need to get him off the wage bill may have been the reason that a compromise has reportedly been reached.
The news of the former Manchester United man’s arrival is likely to spell the end of Loic Remy’s short spell with the London club. The Frenchman has struggled for game time this season, and The Telegraph report that with another rival for the striker position, he may look for a move elsewhere, with Crystal Palace and West Ham keen.
Should Chelsea complete the deal for Falcao, he will be desperate to prove that he is a better forward than the one that spent last year at Old Trafford. However, he faces a difficult challenge if he wants to force his way into the side. When fit, Diego Costa did an excellent job in his first year in English football, and Jose Mourinho’s preference to play only one striker may see the former Porto man once again relegated to the bench, much like he was working under Louis van Gaal.
