Arsenal are hoping to pull off a stunning deal that would see Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain head to the Emirates, according to Spanish journalist Kike Marin, the Metro
The Gunners have been linked with the likes of Karim Benzema and Edinson Cavani so far this summer, as Arsene Wenger tries to bolster his attacking ranks before Tuesday’s deadline.
And it appears that his attention has now switched to Benzema’s former teammate Higuain. But the Metro suggest that agreeing a fee with the Serie A side may prove to be a stumbling block.
The 27-year-old has a release clause of £69.1m, and the Metro report that Napoli have previously suggested that he will not be allowed to leave for anything less.
However, there may be scope for a deal to be negotiated. With the Stadio San Paolo outfit readying themselves for a campaign in the Europa League, the prospect of helping Wenger’s side battle their way through the Champions League may tempt Higuain to make his feelings clear that he wants to go, and leave the Italian side with little choice but to sell for a lower price.
