Spanish journalist says sulking Real Madrid star would have been happier at Arsenal

Spanish journalist Kike Marin has said that Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema would have been happier joining Arsenal this summer, according to the Metro.

The 27-year-old was heavily linked with a switch to The Emirates during the summer transfer window, but instead chose to remain in the Spanish capital.

However, in recent weeks the France international has revealed his frustration at being consistently substituted by manager Rafa Benitez, and Marin, who the Metro point out first broke the Alexis Sanchez story, wrote that Benzema would be happier in North London.

In an article on Spanish publication El Confidential, Marin also claims that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was prepared to splash out £36.7m on Benzema’s signature.

The move ultimately failed, but following his sulking at Benitez’s rotation policy, it could allude to another renewed attempt to land his signature next summer being on the cards.
