Arsenal step up their pursuit of a new striker

Some media outlets are reporting that Arsenal have stepped up their pursuit of a recognised striker after Danny Welbeck was ruled out for nine months with an injury.

The Gunners announced that Welbeck has undergone surgery on his knee for the injury he suffered during the 2-2 draw with Manchester City and will be out for a minimum of nine months.

The Telegraph has reported that the North London club are currently scouting Juventus’s Alvaro Morata, AZ Alkmaar’s Vincent Janssen and Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi among others in the transfer market.

Morata remains Arsene Wenger’s top priority and the French manager is now expected to instruct the club to set the wheels in motion for a potential summer transfer.

The Spaniard has played two years at Juventus on loan from Real Madrid, but the La Liga giants are expected to activatie their buy-back clause of £23.6 million this summer in order to sell Morata for a profit.

Sami Mokbel for Daily Mail has also reported that the Gunners are likely to land a striker in the transfer window.

The Daily Mail claims that, along with the targets mentioned above, Arsenal are also interested in Lille forward Sehrou Guirassy, who has impressed during a loan spell for Ligue 2 club Auxerre this season.
