Chelsea interim manager Roberto Di Matteo has praised Fernando Torres for his hard work after the Spanish international striker scored his first goals in six months against Leicester City in the FA Cup on Sunday, according to Yahoo
Di Matteo said: “[Torres] works so hard for the team, he is a great team player. You get rewarded when you work hard in life and I think we are all happy that he helped us win.”
The 5-2 victory over Championship side Leicester was the fourth consecutive win for Di Matteo since replacing Andre Villas-Boas in the Chelsea dugout. Previously the former Chelsea and Lazio midfielder has overseen triumphs against Birmingham City, Stoke City and Napoli in the Champions League, a match which saw Chelsea stage a remarkable comeback from 3-1 down in the first leg to win 4-1 in the return and 5-4 on aggregate.
Chelsea next face Manchester City on Wednesday evening where Di Matteo will come up against his compatriot Roberto Mancini. Chelsea are currently fifth in the Premier League, three points behind Arsenal, who occupy the final Champions League qualification position.
