Chelsea open talks with Atletico in swap deal for international defender

Chelsea are believed to be in talks with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid over a possible swap deal that would see Felipe Luis return to his former club, with Toby Alderweireld heading to Stamford Bridge, according to the Daily Express.

Belgian international Alderweireld enjoyed a successful spell on loan with Southampton last season, and has thus attracted some attention from the Blues.

In contrast, though, Felipe Luis has struggled to settle into life in west London, failing to nail down a regular first team spot despite performing so well during Atletico’s title winning campaign the year before.

Talk of a swap deal between the two clubs for various players has been mooted for a while, but it now appears as though the Spaniards are looking to bring the Brazil international back to the club by offering up Alderweireld.

The 26-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Vicente Calderon, and Atletico are now looking to get the best deal possible for him.
