8. Kaka – AC Milan to Real Madrid (£56m)
The 2007 Ballon d’Or winner had been one of the world’s best player for a long time by the time he completed his move to Real Madrid in 2009. However, the move to the Bernabeu never quite panned out how the Brazilian would have hoped. He scored just 23 goals in 85 games for the La Liga side. The unsuccessful spell ended when he returned to AC Milan in 2013, by which time he looked a shell of the player that had driven the side to the Champions League crown in 2007. The 33-year-old is now enjoying the twilight of his career with Orlando City in MLS.
7. Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Inter Milan to Barcelona (£59m)
The super Swede has played for several of Europe’s biggest clubs, but it was his move to Barcelona that commanded his highest transfer fee. He had been lethal in three years at San Siro, but struggled to adapt to the Catalan way, as he was forced to accept that he was one of many superstars in the Nou Camp side. Since then, he has enjoyed an excellent time with Inter’s bitter rivals AC Milan, and now leads the line for PSG.
